Maiden Voyage

Today I finished the wiring of the lights on the camper and the wiring for the electric brakes. I loaded up the camper and filled up the bike and decided to take it for a sixty mile round trip to Waller, Texas for some BBQ at the Shell station @ FM 362 & Hwy 290. Really, any excuse for some good BBQ is always on my mind!

The Camper pulled so smooth, if not for the incredible head wind, (very windy day) I think I would not have been able to tell it was back there at all. I took the opportunity to adjust the brake controller so that it is working just right not to strong and not to weak. The brakes are working great.

The BBQ was as good as ever and after a nice lunch talking to some guys about their day, I started back for the house. And it was still pulling great, only now I had a tail wind and boy could I fly. I won’t say just how fast I was going in case Smoky is reading this but let us just say I was scootin right along!

I filled the tank back up and 60 miles took 2 gallons. That means I need to rig a wind deflector on the front to improve my mileage, normally I average about 45 mpg. 30 just won’t do!

If everything goes like it is planned, I should be starting the trip May 21 -23. Cross your fingers! And try to be back home in August.

Later,

The Demonmaster

Hey Rick,

Sounds like you have got a handle on that traveling combo. A friend of mine took the govener(sp) of his bike and his milage went back to 45 mpg. I guess it wasn’t his smartest idea to install that gov. LOL
I am into classic cars like Dave & Diana, but I’m still concerned about economy, so my V-6 Ford p/u is going to the gargae before my trip to St Louis next month. Check engine lite tell me it’s running to lean on right and left banks of injectors. No doubt I’ve been dumping almost raw gas out of the glass packs. Real Dumb!! Hahahaha.
Glad your trip was a learning experiance, just like every day from now on will be. God Bless, Carl
