Tattoo

As you may or may not know, I will be getting the very first tattoo of my life. This is something of a big deal seeing that after spending 4 years in the United States Marine Corps. And somehow managing not to get a tattoo in all that time, it seems to me this is a pivotal moment in my life.

It is not from the lack of my buddies trying to get me tattooed, after a long night of drinking and partying  while in the Marines they would drag me into some tattoo parlor somewhere around the world and pony up the money to get some tattoo that I’m sure they thought was “cool” at the time. Thank God the tattoo artist refused to give me the tattoo until I was sober. Otherwise I’m sure I would be graced with God only knows what cartoon creature, naked lady humping a missile or something of equal velvet Elvis status.

But after my Dolores died, I decided that a memorial tattoo, by only the best artist was appropriate. After talking to several artists here in Houston I was told that the best color artist in the state was Nate Beavers of I-45 Ink on the gulf fwy right here in Houston. Here is a link to his website: http://www.tattoosbynate.com/

Yesterday I went to his shop and talk to him briefly and told him what I wanted and asked if he could give me what I was looking for. I only have 2 requests, first it must look exactly like her not just something like her and second it must be the very best work you have ever done. Not asking for too much am I? He assured me it was not a problem, although I will have to wait until sometime in September because he is booked solid until then. Not a problem, time is not a major concern for me, only quality. I will of course be sharing with you the tattooing experience with pictures of it being done and the finished product. I hope my Dolores will be pleased with the result although she was not a big fan of tattoos, her son Byron got the Texas flag tattooed on his arm and when asked what she thought about it, she looked at the still fresh tattoo and slapped it asking how do you like it now? I would guess she didn’t approve, however subtlety is always lost on me!

This will be a memorial tattoo and therefore must be perfect and befitting her memory. I’m sure it will be all that and more, Nate has been recommended by some very popular tattoo artists that I know through mutual friends.

        What do you think?

ps. the picture is not Nate’s work nor is it anything like what I will be getting, it’s just an example of a tattoo.
