Piggy Piggy

My Little Piggy Banks

You never know what silly or quirky little thing will turn into one of the best and most long lived events in your life. Such was the case with Dolores and I one day as she was packing up some things to donate to a local thrift store. One of the items she chooses was this whimsical little piggy bank she had owned since she was a little girl. I thought that it was the most unusual little pig I had ever seen. After a very prolonged conversation about how much I wanted us to keep it, she relented and it became my little pig. (The one in the front as if you wouldn’t know that!)

So time passes and one day as we were at one of the thrift stores that she loved to browse through, I wanted to leave and she was anything but ready to go. So as she looked at every little piece of useless crap, (my opinion) I began to pout and sigh loudly as most men do when they know they are out gunned and are nevertheless stuck to the very end.

Now most men would kill to have a woman that could spend all day shopping going from store to store and end the day spending less than five dollars on the things she really wanted and be as tickled as any little school girl. I was aware of just how lucky I was. That being said there is only so much a man can take of this shopping bliss.

Not being the kind of man that will whine or engage in useless fighting over such a small thing, I decided to engage in some activity that would be sure to mildly and good naturedly annoy the living crap out of her on every thrift store shopping excursion from that moment on.  Little did I know at the time just how much joy and fond memories this would one day reap.

You would be surprised just how hard finding these little piggy banks turn out to be. Each pig you see in the picture represents at least five or six trips of four to five stores each trip. Do the math, that my friend is a lot of shopping.

It became my quest in life to find the ugliest most garish looking little piggy bank I could find, while meeting the criteria of being less than three dollars. It is my high honor and proud privilege to display my current collection of these little piggy banks.

The funny thing is I am not going to stop collecting these little piggy banks, as I travel around the country on this trip and any other trips in my future, I will continue to stop at every thrift store I happen upon and will buy every ugly piggy bank under three dollars for the rest of my life. Can you think of any better a tribute to such a wonderful lady?
