Minnesota, South Dakota, Iowa and Nebraska all these states in my attempt to get around the flooding that is wreaking havoc on the Plains, and to avoid any really big bad storms as I try to get to Colorado. Some very beautiful country on my way, here are some pictures. Enjoy!
OK, it was
bound to happen. Sooner or later something had to go wrong just to keep me in touch with reality. After my last stop in South Dakota, I made it about 5 miles south on I 35 when my Garmin Zumo 550 started acting up. It was stuck showing me I was on some county road although I was on the interstate. To re-set this and fix the problem you must stop and not be mo
ving. So I slowed down

and pulled off to the side, as I slowed to 25 mph the rear tire blew and it was all I could do to keep from losing control. I used the front brake which also applied the trailer brake and managed to stop without falling. After I got off and pulled my pants out of my butt!, I noticed that the Garmin was working just fine. Just 2 minutes earlier I was traveling around 70 mph, do you think I have an angel protecting me or what?! Here are some more pictures. I need a beer and some rest and I’ll be back on the road again in the morning.
When I left the motel I swear there was tread on the tire, I always check my tires in the morning. I knew that it was getting thin but I had no idea it was that thin. I called a wrecker in Sioux City and he had me picked up and delivered at Champion Cycle, the home of the 5 time winner of the Pikes Peak International Hillclimb Champion, Greg Chiconie. Greg and the boys had me in and out in short order and tightened up a couple of other things while they were at it. The price was more than reasonable and the work top notch I highly recommend them for any work you might need.
