I wok
e early and loaded up my stuff while the rest of the house slept, and true to form I missed some stuff, nothing important; bath soap and my little coffee maker. Dennis you guys enjoy that coffee maker it should do you just fine when it’s just you and Noi again. I got myself a new one already.
For you route freaks I took 231 N out of Panama City to 20 E that took me to Tallahassee where I found 319 N and headed to Thomasville Georgia. There I hopped on 84 E and headed toward Savannah. I must say my Zumo 550 has worked out flawlessly. Whenever I get close to where I think I should stop for the day I just punch up RV/Campground and Bam there is a list complete with phone numbers and mileage. You can’t beat that with a stick. So I am scootin down the road singing at the top of my lungs Ray Charles’ Georgia on my Mind. It goes without saying it is a good thing no one can hear me sing! But I just couldn’t help myself, cool morning, smooth roads, and the smell of fresh pines, who wouldn’t sing?
Somewhere around Du Pont, Ga., I stopped for gas and found a fresh vegetable stand and bought myself some tomatoes. Boy was they good! I figured that I’d stop for the night about half way to my next destination about a 300 mile day. In Homerville, Ga., I stopped at the Huddle House Restaurant for lunch. Now let me just say I was very pleased with the food and the service, I think lots of locals eat there often. One of the nice things about eating in a small diner is unlike a big store where you might have 30 checkouts and only 2 open they only had 1 register and four waitresses. And every one of them was smiling and friendly.
The reason I brought up the Huddle House wasn’t just the great dining experience but because here I found something I had hoped was still alive and well in America. A gentleman came in and sat down at the counter and struck up a conversation with me about where I came from and where I was going and why, after I told my story he wished me well and hoped I’d have a safe trip. Without any fanfare or need of personal recognition he quietly motioned for the waitress and told her he was getting my bill, the mark of a true southern gentleman. When I went to pay I was informed that the man had taken care of it for me. I know to some it might not seem like such a big deal, but my friends when was the last time you witnessed this event in your life? I know all the folks there in Homerville know who this man is and I would like for them to shake his hand again for me and let him know that his seemingly small act of kindness meant a great deal to man that is trying to heal. Thank You Sir.
Shortly after leaving the diner I punched in RV/Campground and 30 miles up the road is Happy Acres Resort just outside of Screven, Ga. Now how could you not stop at a place called happy acres? I’m having a hard time sleeping tonight for some reason, which is why I’m writing this at 2:00am. I don’t know why I just don’t feel tired, I did take a nap after I sat up camp and took a shower. Perhaps I can sleep some more before morning. I am going to try to take more photos from now on as I travel down the road. Sorry I only have two for this post.

Hi Rick, the spot not only looks Happy but a beautiful place to stay. It was a kind & rare act made by that Southern gentleman…..Chrissy x
Good Morning Rick,
Is part of your plan to leave a few things at each location to lighten your load? Ha Ha Ha… just kidding. We will put the coffee maker to use, but the eye glass case with no eye glasses… we will get that to you… smile…
Glad to hear you made it safe and sound to GA. I think I know where that Huddle House is. I am familiar with the route you took.
All is well here… we miss your friendly smile and happy disposition.
Thanks for all you did when you were here. Everyone had a great time.
Take care of your self on the road and may God Bless You.
Dennis and Noi
That’s why I love the south. I’ve been shooed out of stores in other parts of the country for only asking the clerk, “How are you doing?”,or, “Have a nice day”. We enjoyed talking with you and wish that we would have had more time to hear some of your stories…I guess this site will make up for that. God bless you and keep on movin’.
